Car Insurance Toyota (Car Insurance). Replacing Head Unit in 05 Nissan Altima 2.5s?

Replacing Head Unit in 05 Nissan Altima 2.5s? So I'm looking to replace the head unit in my Nissan Altima 2.5s. I looked on crutchfield and found a Clarion CX201 which is a Double DIN which I am pretty sure my car has. It says that it fits so I am going to take the sites word for it. However I am a bit confused on the actual installation. Is it a simple plug and play or will i need to buy anything extra? A few of my friends said I will need a antenna adapter and I will need to splice some wires. But if my car is double din I don't see how it would make sense to have to splice wires to put in a double din head, or an antenna adapter. So is it really as easy as popping the old one out and putting the new one in?

The Clarion will have DIN mounting screw holes that line up to the same holes that hold the factory unit in place. If and only if your car has factory installed amps, use the adapter Crutchfield recommends for your car. If it doesn't, still use the adapter, but clip out the black line-level converter box, and use the speaker wires from the Clarion. However, it would be cheaper to just use a wiring harness without that black box if you don't have factory installed amps. Crutchfield should have one of these. They will help you get what you need as long as you know what factory stereo option you have installed. If it's not BOSE, it doesn't have factory amps installed.

Toyota . How to Read a Manifold Gauge

A manifold gauge is quite possibly one of the most overlooked, yet easiest, diagnostic tools to use. The gauge features a single needle and a series of numbers that surround the needle. The numbers represent inches of mercury, or "in./Hg." The challenge with a manifold gauge is not attaching the gauge to the engine, but interpreting the movement of the gauge's needle. Note that a steady needle reading of approximately 20 in./Hg. is optimal.
Difficulty:Easy
Instructions

Step by Step :
1
Check for sticking valves or incorrect engine timing if the gauge's needle fluctuates between 15 and 20 in./Hg.
2
Check for a damaged carburetor or throttle body gasket, a damaged intake manifold gasket, a sticking throttle valve or late ignition or valve timing if the gauge reads steadily at some point between 10 and 15 in./Hg.
3
Adjust the air/fuel mixture if the needle consistently drifts back and forth between approximately 12 and 18 in./Hg.
4
Inspect the cylinder heads for a weak intake or exhaust valve spring if the gauge needle fluctuates widely when the speed of the engine is increased. Also inspect the distributor cap and spark plugs for signs of wear, which could cause an ignition miss. If the problem persists, the cylinder head gasket may need to be replaced.
5
Inspect the cylinder heads for a burnt valve or improper valve clearance if the needle reads steady, but suddenly drops before returning to its steady position in regular intervals. The sudden drop occurs when the faulty valve is operated.
6
Replace the choked muffler if the needle gradually drops as the engine idles.
7
Replace the valve guides if the gauge needle vibrates excessively as the engine idles, but then steadies when the speed of the engine is increased.

Toyota . How to Advance or Retard Ignition Timing

Ignition timing is crucial to the performance and longevity of your vehicle's engine. The engine must have the correct timing so that the air and fuel mixture detonates at precisely the right time. If the ignition timing has too much advance, the air and fuel mixture will detonate prematurely, and your engine will ping and knock, which will eventually damage your engine. On the other hand, if the timing has too much retard, engine performance and fuel mileage will suffer. Knowing how to advance or retard your timing is important to reach a happy medium.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Adjustable wrench

Step by Step :
1
Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Open the hood.
2
Locate the distributor, which will be near the top of the engine at either the front of back of the engine block.
3
Loosen the distributor mounting bolt located at the base of the distributor, turning an adjustable wrench in a counterclockwise direction.
4
Turn the distributor in a counterclockwise direction to advance the ignition timing. Do not over-adjust the distributor, as even a slight movement will yield a significant change in the ignition timing.
5
Turn the distributor in a clockwise direction to retard the timing.
6
Tighten the distributor holding bolt in a clockwise direction with an adjustable wrench. Close the hood.
7
Road test the vehicle to see if the desired results have been achieved. Fine tune your adjustments by repeating the above procedures.
Tips & Warnings
Check your vehicle owner's manual or repair manual for the correct ignition timing setting for your engine. The ignition timing can be checked with a timing light. Disconnect the rubber hose from the vacuum advance on the distributor and plug it with a screw or golf tee. Follow the directions for your timing light and connect it to the vehicle's battery and the number one spark plug. Start the engine and aim the timing light at the timing marks on the engine crankshaft pulley. Adjust the timing by using the above procedures until the correct timing is achieved, then unplug the rubber hose and push it back onto the vacuum advance. Disconnect the timing light and close the hood.

If you use your vehicle for racing or off-road purposes, advance your timing just until the engine starts to ping, then retard the timing a few degrees. Test the vehicle using conditions as close as possible to the vehicle's intended use. Make adjustments to the timing as necessary.

Running on a run-flat at high speeds for a long period can damage them, so car manufacturers incorporate a warning system. For example, the Corvette has tire pressure sensors at each wheel so that the driver can be warned when one or more tires are flat. Because the driver can't feel any difference when a run-flat goes flat, a warning light illuminates on the instrument panel, signaling the driver to limit his or her driving speed and distance to avoid further damage to the tire or wheel. Before making a decision about a particular type of tire, take a close look at your driving habits: Are you hard on tires? If you tend to "burn rubber" when cornering, starting, and stopping, you know where that rubber comes from. A pair of cheaply made tires will wear out quickly, so buy the best quality you can afford. Do you drive a great deal and do most of your driving on high-speed free ways? A tire with a harder surface will take longer to wear out under these conditions. Do you drive a lot on unpaved rocky roads, carry heavy loads, or leave your car in the hot sun for long hours? You'll need higher-quality tires that 892 Car Insurance 2000 buick regal 262365

have the stamina to endure these challenges. What's the weather like in your area? Today, front-wheel drive vehicles with high-tech all-season tires get better traction than the old snow tires, which you had to replace when warm weather set in. However, if you drive under .Chapter 19: Checking Your Tires, Alignment, and Steering extreme conditions, you may want to check out tires designed for them: If it rains a lot, look for rain tires with super-wide grooves in the treads. For places with lots of snow or icy hills, look for "M+S" (mud and snow) on the sidewall. Do you drive mostly in local stop-and-go traffic, with many turns? Softer tires with wider treads will suit you best. How long do you intend to keep your car? Putting a pair of expensive tires on a vehicle that you intend to get rid of in 10,000 or 20,000 miles is foolish. Oh, it's possible to put well over 100,000 miles on a vehicle — especially if you maintain it properly — but if you have a relatively old vehicle with many miles on it already, and you don't intend to keep it very long, I wouldn't buy a pair of expensive mega-mile tires for it. Your car may surprise you and outlive its tires, but chances are that it won't. Similarly, it's foolish to put high-performance tires on a vehicle that will be driven mostly at normal speeds in city and highway traffic. On the other hand, if you intend to keep your vehicle for a few years, you'll save money in the long run by opting for more expensive, longer-lasting tires than "cheapos" or tires rated for less than 40,000 miles. Cheap tires wear out more quickly and cost more in the long run if you figure in the cost of buying, mounting, and balancing that second set. What's more, if you suffer a blowout or your tires fail to grip the road, you'll pay a great deal more if your vehicle — or you — is injured. If you drive only a couple of thousand miles a year, don't expect a pair of 40,000-mile radials to last forever. Rubber treads tend to rot eventually because of the ozone in the air, which causes cracks and hard spots in the sidewalls — a condition called ozone checking. For this reason, if you've used your tires for more than 40,000 miles, even if the treads are in good shape, have the tires checked to make sure that deteriorating rubber hasn't made them prone to blowouts and leaks. In addition to knowing which kind of tire is best for your car and understanding the tire codes (explained in the section called "The Secrets on Your Sidewalls, Revealed!"), keep the following tips in mind when you shop for tires: V You can find the proper tire size for your car in the owner's manual or on a sticker affixed to the vehicle. If neither exists, ask your dealer.

v* Although you should never buy tires that are smaller than those specified for your vehicle, you can buy tires a size or two larger (if the car's wheel clearance allows it) for better handling or load-carrying ability. However, you should buy these larger tires in pairs and place them on the same axle. Ask your mechanic or a reputable tire or auto dealer for advice about the proper size range for your vehicle. For more advice, see "Tips for Buying Tires," later in this chapter. Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System 406 V Never use two different-sized tires on the same axle. V* If you're replacing just one or two tires, put the new ones on the front for better cornering control and braking (because weight transfers to the front tires when you brake). C" If you still have bias-ply or bias-belted tires on your car, you must replace all of them at the same time with radials when they wear out. You can't mix different kinds of tires on the same vehicle; you should have the same type on all four wheels. The ride is so different that radial tires would throw your car out of alignment if you tried them in combination with the old-style tires. u* Remember that you have to "break in" new tires, so don't drive faster than 60 mph for the first 50 miles on a new tire or spare. v0 Store tires that you aren't using in the dark, away from extreme heat and electric motors that create ozone. Retreads: Bargains or blowouts? Millions of tires are discarded every year, and tires that had disintegrated on the road. But an entire industry has developed to put them today, advances in retreading have raised their back on the road by replacing the worn tread quality, and the industry's Tire Retread areas with new ones. The retreading process Information Bureau claims that retreads have involves grinding the tread off an otherwise the same 3 percent failure rate as new tires. So sound old tire and winding a strand of uncured if you're interested in recycling, you may be rubber around the tire. Then the tire is placed in motivated to buy retreads in order to reduce the a mold, where the rubber is cured under heat number of tires heading for landfills. and pressure and the tread itself is shaped.

Checking tire inflation pressure The single most important factor in caring for your tires is maintaining the correct inflation pressure. You should check your tires at least once a month and before every long trip to see that they're properly inflated. make the vehicle harder to handle. Overinflated tires can blow out more easily, wear out faster, and make the vehicle unstable and unsafe to handle. The section "Checking your tires for wear," later in this chapter, can help you check for signs of these problems and tells you what to do about them. Check tire pressure in the morning before you use the car or when you've driven it less than a mile. If you drive more than that, your tires will heat up and the air will expand, so you won't get an accurate reading. In hot weather, the pressure in your tires rises as the air in them heats up and expands, which can result in overinflation. Conversely, in cold weather, the pressure falls as the cold air contracts and your tires can end up underinflated.
